PSD to provide school supplies for the 2023-2024 school year

As outlined in our five year strategic plan, the Peninsula School District has committed to creating equitable and inclusive learning environments for every child in our schools. To help us reach this goal, PSD will provide all basic educational school supplies to our K-12 students at no cost to families during the 2023-2024 school year. You can see a full list of school supplies offered at your child’s grade level at our website - https://bit.ly/PSD-School-Supplies.

Welcome to our Transitional Kindergarten students!

Five of our elementary schools were greeted with happy new faces as the first day of Transitional Kindergarten started.

Our youngest students met new friends, enjoyed fun activities, and began learning how to succeed in the classroom as a part of this preschool program.

Transitional kindergarten is a free program for children who qualify that focuses on academics, social-emotional skills, and good learning habits - all to help empower them when they begin kindergarten.

Transitional Kindergarten is offered at Discovery, Evergreen, Harbor Heights, Minter Creek, and Voyager elementary schools.

Next week, we are holding elementary and middle school parent-teacher conferences. This is a good time to talk with your child’s teacher if you think your child is experiencing reading difficulties.

Please visit the Peninsula School District’s website for early literacy parent resources and to learn how PSD supports students experiencing reading difficulties and/or dyslexia.

If you want to learn more about dyslexia, please join our parent event “Engage for Success: Dyslexia Instruction and Support in PSD” at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at Swift Water Elementary School. Register today at https://bit.ly/PSDDyslexiaFamilyNight. to let us know you’re coming!

Families, don’t forget!

Elementary and middle school parent-teacher conferences are next week from Monday, Oct. 24 to Friday, Oct. 28.

Because conferences will be held in the afternoon, all elementary and middle schools will have half-days next week. High schools will have regular, full school days. There is no late start for any school on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Being a proficient reader by the third grade is critical for lifelong success. PSD has set a goal that all
third-grade students will read at or above grade level by 2026.

To reach this visionary goal, we need YOU, our community. PSD is spearheading a new
community-wide initiative across the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula communities.

We are looking for businesses, organizations, and individuals interested in helping host an event or be a part of this planning process.
