Gig Harbor and Lincoln High School students foster understanding

Dear PSD Families and Staff,

I want to share a positive development that occurred last Friday morning, Jan. 17, in a continuing practice of learning and growing. Students from Gig Harbor High School and Lincoln High School came together in a restorative circle with the intention of learning more about their peers from across the bridge. This in-person time of sharing involved powerful, meaningful, and vulnerable dialogue that fostered understanding, healing, and connection among all of the students.

I am incredibly proud of our students for their courage and openness in engaging in these challenging discussions. Their willingness to participate serves as an inspiring testament to the strength that emerges when we come together to address difficult issues.

I also want to acknowledge the thoughtful and intentional guidance provided by staff from both schools, who meticulously prepared and provided unwavering support to our students throughout this impactful experience. More precisely, I would like to applaud Lincoln High School’s Mr. McLemore and Mr. Chambers for their exceptional facilitation, guiding these important conversations with expertise and sensitivity.

Furthermore, I want to express my sincere appreciation to Gig Harbor High School, particularly Ms. Malich and Ms. Suiter, for their invaluable collaboration in creating a safe and respectful environment for this restorative work.

As Superintendent of Peninsula School District, I am deeply committed to ensuring the continuation of this vital restorative work. We will build upon these meaningful conversations to further strengthen the bonds within our schools and foster a more connected and harmonious community.

While we celebrate this significant step, we recognize that this is an ongoing journey. We remain dedicated to cultivating a culture of respect, understanding, and healing within our district and extended to all our neighbors.

Sincerely,

Krestin Bahr
Superintendent
