Discovery Elementary School

Dear Discovery Families,

As we gear up for the start of another exciting school year, I want to extend a warm welcome back to all of our wonderful families. As we enter my fifth year as Principal at Discovery Elementary, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible community we've built together. Your trust in us to nurture and educate your children is an honor we cherish.

I'm thrilled to introduce you to three fantastic additions to our Discovery team. Please join me in welcoming Tish Lloyd, our new Custodian, Janea Martinez, our new Health Tech, and Lizzy Mercurio, our new 1st-grade teacher. Many of you might already be familiar with Lizzy, as she has been an integral part of our school community, serving as our building substitute and student teaching in Mrs. Hankel's classroom. We're excited to have them on board and know they will contribute significantly to our students' success.

As we embark on this new school year, I'd like to share some important updates:

Construction Update: The ongoing construction of classroom doors is progressing well, and we anticipate that most of the work will be completed before the school year begins. This enhancement to our learning environment ensures the safety and security of all our students and staff.

Class Placements: Class placements for the upcoming school year will be available to families starting August 29th. You'll be able to access this information through our school's website.

Meet the Teacher: Join us for our "Meet the Teacher" event on Thursday, August 29th, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. This is a fantastic opportunity for both students and parents to connect with their teachers and become familiar with the classroom setting.

Student Supplies: Thanks to the tremendous support from our voting community, families will not be required to provide student supplies this year. We are truly grateful for this partnership, which allows us to focus on providing the best learning experiences for your children.

Please take a moment to read the PSD Back-to-School Guide. This guide contains valuable information to help ensure a smooth transition into the new school year.

Our daily transportation plan is also getting an upgrade. Here is the link to the Google form for families to complete to inform us of each student’s transportation plan (bus, private vehicle, etc.) This online form will streamline the process and make it more convenient for everyone. Of course, if you prefer a paper form, we'll have those available in the office.
